Biden Beating the Meat.

Biden Beating the Meat.

Yesterday, from the movie set like Oval Office, President Joe Biden took aim at the meat industry.  Biden lamented the four largest meat packers in the nation about the rising cost of meat in the United States.  Biden cited the "Packers and Stockyards Act" and promised to spend $1B of American Rescue Plan funds and saddle the meat industry with additional government regulations to bring rising meat prices down.

The problem is rising prices aren't the meat producer's fault.  Inflation is at a 40-year high.  The supply chain, highlighted by COVID in 20200, is incredibly fragile and is in disarray.  Fuel prices Trucking freight (the most common means of transportation for American meat) rose 36% in October of 2021 alone - the most in three decades of recorded data.  The diesel fuel which powers trucks rose 44% in 2021.  Ships sitting off the coast unable to offload cargo costs money to operate daily.  When they don't move, they aren't making money.  It's the same with airplanes and 18-wheelers.  The increased cost of shipping directly translates to increased prices of goods.  Anyone who passed high-school economics knows this.  Biden, who continues to claim he drove a tractor-trailer (lie) should know this.  Right?

The administration knows the meat producers are not the problem.  They're simply looking for a scapegoat to distract you from the fact they continue to fail at solving the inflation crisis.  Biden punted the COVID issue to the states a few weeks ago in a phone call with numerous governors.  He campaigned on "I have a plan for COVID" and now is at "there is no federal answer.  This is a state issue."  His statement drew ire and condemnation from both sides of the aisle, but in our hyper-fast news cycle it was quickly forgotten.

So, instead of addressing the disease the administration will continue to treat the symptoms with more spending and more government, which anyone paying attention knows that the second you try and cure something with more government you're killing it rather than saving it.

Maybe when Mayor Pete gets off paternity leave he'll fix it with his vast knowledge of transportation and the supply chain.  I mean, he rode on a train once.
