The Biden Administration keeps covid in the news cycle because it was primarily seen as a Trump issue…Biden was just elected to clean it up. Talking about covid keeps everyone’s eyes off other issues he’s failing to deal with. Now with the new variant rapidly spreading, long lines for testing, and a lack of emphasis for any other actions other than to get vaccinated, recent polling shows covid is quickly becoming solely a Biden problem. President Biden gave his speech today to highlight government actions to the omicron variant. While he was speaking, two things came to my mind. First, we’re two years into this, why isn’t the administration proactive vs reactive? We should have a billion tests available especially since we are pushing everyone to test before holiday visits. Why isn’t President Biden highlighting therapeutics, monoclonal antibody treatments, and prophylactics? He is just now announcing efforts to ramp up tests, testing locations, and other resources, but we are three weeks into omicron and studies from South Africa suggest South Africa is on a downward trend after six weeks. Second, I didn’t hear anything in his speech that we haven’t already been doing, just more of the same. The most important of the two is the administration’s reactiveness because it is the modus operandi of President Biden and I believe, one of the reasons for the failure of his administration. He and his cabinet are reactive to everything… the border crisis, the Afghanistan withdrawal, inflation, supply chain issues, and covid just to name the big ones (Taiwan and Ukraine are up next). As a candidate, he ran on experience. He’s been in the government for so long that he’s seen just about every possible situation, both domestic and international. Shouldn’t he have some insight on the type of things we should be prepared for? If President Biden continues to be this reactive to just about everything, it’s going to be a long three years.
