By now, just about everyone knows about the devastation throughout Kentucky and several neighboring states. Events like this are heartbreaking no matter when they happen, but to happen so close to Christmas is like an extra punch to the gut. We'll have another post with a link for our viewers and listeners to help if they choose to.
In response to the devastation, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell gave an interview to CNN's Jake Tapper and instead of talking about specific actions FEMA is doing to immediately get help and provide aid to those impacted by the tornadoes, she painted some broad strokes about FEMA's efforts and then went on to blame the tornadoes on climate change and how this was going to be the "new normal". Criswell took a horrific incident and instead of using her airtime to bring Americans together to provide whatever assistance they can, she hijacked the cause to interject her own agenda...or at least the current administration's agenda. Let's pull on your heartstrings to get you to buy an electric vehicle so no more tornadoes will happen, but let's get to the data and you decide for yourselves. Is there a trend in regards to the number of tornadoes? How did Criswell come to this conclusion? Take a look at a basic chart from the Insurance Information Institute on the number of tornadoes for the last 20 years.
All this does is it takes the focus away from where it should be...on getting help to those who need it and if you're like me...as soon as they went down the climate change route, I tuned out. Sad display by Tapper and Criswell. My heart and prayers go out to those affected.
