A few months ago we informed you about the devastating tornadoes which ripped through central Kentucky, killing dozens and leaving a wake of destruction in their path. Unfortunately, Kentucky is back in the news, this time about flooding in Eastern Kentucky, A loyal listener who is from the hollows of coal country reached out to us and asked us if we heard about the flooding in the Appalachia region of Eastern Kentucky. We knew there were parts of the country receiving substantial amounts of rain but were not aware of the significant flooding and loss of life in the Bluegrass State.
To date, there are 28 confirmed deaths, four of which were small children, who were siblings, washed away from their parents grip in the floodwaters. Tens of thousands are without power, water, and many are homeless, and more rain and sweltering heat is forecasted for this week. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear activated the Kentucky National Guard and the governors of Tennessee and West Virginia activated their respective National Guards to assist. As of this post they have rescued over 600 people in Appalachia, most of them from the roofs of their flooded homes.
We understand times are tough with gas prices at historic levels and uncertainty in the economy. We do ask that you seriously consider donating to the one of the below charities to assist those in Kentucky who are suffering. Many have lost everything and could use our help.
