The Rot of the Republic.

The Rot of the Republic.

Last week, Kevin Clinesmith, the FBI lawyer who was convicted of altering information to obtain a FISA renewal against Trump associate Carter Page had his law license restored.

Clinesmith received a very light punishment even though he clearly violated the law and corrupted his oath as a public servant.  From the D.C. Bar association: “[T]he panel found that respondent engaged in conduct that was prejudicial to the proper administration of justice [and] exposed the legal profession or the courts to obloquy, contempt, censure or reproach,” the Michigan panel said of Clinesmith, according to RCI. His actions were “contrary to justice, ethics, honesty or good morals; violated the standards or rules of professional conduct adopted by the Supreme Court; and violated a criminal law of the United States,” the court added.

In case you missed the gravity of this, here it is in different words:  The FBI lawyer who falsified information so the FBI could continue spying on a private American citizen had his law license handed back to him and can practice law again.  Let that sink in for a minute.

Now, this may seem like a non-issue for some.  Some of you probably don't care, some of you probably care, but chalk it up to "politics."  Some of you probably still think that even after a special counsel, thousands of hours of interviews, hundreds of FBI Agents working, and the exposing of the "source" of the Steele Dossier among others, that Trump did collude with the Russians leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

My question to all of you is this - how much is enough?  At what point do you demand accountability from elected and non-elected public servants?  If you tolerate this type of behavior, where is the line with behavior you won't tolerate from public servants?  What is it?  Is it acceptable when "your party" does it?  Do you even care?  It is apparent, based on social media posts, that a lot of you either don't care and some even support this type of behavior.

How long do you think the Republic can last with the rot at its core?
